“Ash just ‘gets’ the needs of a professional wildlife photographer. The sightings were incredible”

I have been to Guyana many times and actually published two books on this amazing country – a hidden jewel of South America. The jewel within the jewel were my two trips with Ashley Holland, owner/operator of Rupununi River Drifters. Incredible is the only word to describe them. On one 3 week trip there was Ashley, one of his camp cook and guides Josy, another guide called Brian, and myself. We portaged our boat around rapids and waterfalls on trails that he cut in the forest, we were on a photographic mission, which was such a pleasure as Ash just ‘gets’ the needs of a professional wildlife photographer. The sightings were incredible and it surely has to be the last denizen of giant anacondas (apart from everything else). Every day we pushed deeper up river and into the forest, sleeping in mosquito net covered hammocks at the water’s edge, supplementing our provisions with abundant fish the river had to offer. The area was pristine. Perhaps the most incredible aspect of all was that in those three weeks we did not see a single other human being. A rare privilege. Thank you Ashley for your abundant knowledge, wisdom, expertise and humour.
